The following is a Facebook Entry from Pete McGowan: –
Yesterday was rather a ‘Dreich Day’!
But for Chris Shorrocks, Ted Rodgers and I from the RAF MRS, and another gentleman from the RAF Sports Parachuting Association, it did not dampen our spirits as we arrived in Lambley, Nottingham, to attend the wee Celebration for our good friend, Sqn Ldr William (Bill) Brankin BEM.
Bill joined the RAF aged 17 years as an electrician. He joined Kinloss MRT (’51-’55) , then transferred to a PTI and completed his Team Leader’s Course in 1955.
Bill was Team Leader at St Athan (’55-’57) and Leuchars (’57-’63).
In 1963 Bill was awarded the BEM for services to the RAF MRS, then took a Commission and for a period was OC the JSMTC at Llanwrest before he retired in 1980.
Bill was at home on the 27th of September with his family as he headed peacefully for the ‘High Mountains’.
He would have been 90 on 28th October.
Our condolences go to all his family and friends.
