Rita Munday – RAFMRA President – Millom 1941 – 1943 RIP

Rita Munday

It is with great sadness we have to announce the passing of our President, Rita Munday she passed away aged 97 on the 26th of November 2019.  Funeral arrangements will be posted once they are available.

Rita, the 1st Lady of the RAFMRS, became our President in November 2017. Rita was very proud of being involved with the early developments of the RAF Mountain Rescue service while at RAF Millom. She was a member of the Millom Team from 1941-43 where she was involved in life-saving rescues before the MRS was formally created in 1943. This included having the distinction of being the only member who rescued a Spitfire pilot, whilst serving on the Millom Team

On the occasion of her 96th birthday, on the 4th August 2018, we sent her a bouquet of flowers and a birthday card on behalf of RAFMRA.  The flowers had to be delivered after 1 pm as Rita was helping out at a club for the elderly in the morning!! Quite a remarkable woman.

Our condolences go out to her Family.
