The RAF Valley MRT troops were called out yesterday to assist Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation with an injured walker on Tryfan. With the casualty high up on the North Ridge and with the Coastguard helicopter unable to get in due to the weather conditions, over 20 Ogwen and Valley troops deployed on the hill ready for what was going to be a difficult technical lower on complex terrain. Once on scene, the injured walker was treated for his injuries and packaged into a stretcher for the lowering process to begin. 4 technical lowers later and the casualty was down at the Heather Terrace below the cloud base. Rescue 936 had been requested and were able to fly in, winch down and pick the casualty up for onward transport to hospital.

Always an important date in the Mountain Rescue Service calendar, last week saw the Summer Course (yes, summer!) held in North Wales. Designed as a full week to allow MR troops, of varying experience levels, to build on and consolidate their rock climbing skills. With troops from the 3 teams in attendance, some working towards their Rock Climbing Instructor whilst others were building up towards being a Rock Climbing Leader, and even though the weather was patchy, it was still a great week with lots of key training achieved.

Anyone at the Cosford Air Show today? If you are, why not pop over to say hello to the troops representing the Mountain Rescue Service.

Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Service shared a post.
Great images and a very fitting tribute captured by the RAF Valley Photogs.

The RAF Valley MRT troops were out again on Friday, this time assisting Llanberis MRT with a couple of shouts on Yr Wyddfa. 1st job was to respond to an injured walker, who was brought down from the Pyg Track to the Miners’ Track and taken off the hill by Llanberis MRT. The 2nd shout was for another injured walker, this time on the Llanberis Path. With the casualty packaged ready for a stretcher lower, Rescue 936 were able to land on and the casualty was transferred to the helicopter for onward journey to hospital.
Whensoever.
